Lemon Yogurt Cupcakes & Summer Institute

This post is about my last week of school, back at the beginning of June. I apologize for the lateness but I got immediately caught up in other summer projects!

The last day of school (for teachers) was Monday, June 11th. That evening, the art department and an administrator got together at a coworker's house for a BBQ. It was relaxing and fun. I brought Lemon Yogurt Cupcakes. Everyone seemed to love them! I even added some school bus sprinkles. :) The recipe is the same as my Lemon Blueberry Yogurt Cupcakes but instead of blueberry yogurt, I used lemon yogurt. Yum! You can find the recipe here.

The day after, there was a county art workshop called the Summer Institute. They hold it every year for the two days after school. It's so much fun because you can network with other art teachers in the county and just spend two days making art.

The first workshop we went to was on art journaling. We each came away with an art journal! Here's Carolyn's:

And here's mine! I apologize for the glare but it says "CREATE". I did a few inside pages too but here is the front cover:

After that we went to a Crayola workshop. First we worked in groups with Model Magic to create our own ice cream shop franchise. Here is Carolyn's chocolate almond dessert:

Don't those almonds look real?! I made a mint chocolate chip dessert... of course!

Here is our group's selection together. We called our shop Friendly Fats because it's ice cream made without milk. We use coconut, almond and soy milk. :)

After the Model Magic project, we did another Crayola project with tempra paints and radial balance. It was super quick and we whipped these up in literally minutes. The top one is Carolyn's and the bottom is mine.

The next day we continued working on our journals and then we went to a workshop on creating a Slice of Life. This was taking a magazine photo and turning it into a realistic tempra painting using only the primary colors. I learned what carbon paper is. :) Here is Carolyn's amazing portrait:

Next is Beth's AWESOME landscape. Her boats came out just fantastic! She even was able to finish hers!

And here is my incomplete corn still life. Who knows when I will have the patience to finish this!

We all had a blast at this year's Summer Institute. This is what I came home to:

Guess who got himself under that blanket all by himself?
