Classic Country Desk Reveal

Two weeks ago was crazyyy! I painted a desk in a matter of days on top of working and getting ready for Todd's big birthday party. (Stay tuned for a post on that!)

The desk is for my mother-in-law and she requested a glossy black. I went with Valspar's Dark Kettle Black in a gloss finish. The handles and knobs I got at Hobby Lobby at 50% off. But I am rushing ahead. Here is the before:

Todd and I got this desk off Craigslist for about $15 a year ago. It has been sitting in our 400 square foot first floor and then out in the backyard (covered by heavy duty plastic) foreverrr. So glad to give it a good home!

Todd sanded and I scraped goo and stickers off and then primed and painted it. Teamwork makes the dreamwork! :)

Now get ready for some dark after pictures. Since I was painting at night (and last minute- story of my life lately), I was able to snap a few pictures at night before my in-laws took it home with them.

I added some cabinet bumpers to the drawers to help protect the finish. You can get these for a few bucks at the hardware store in the aisle with the furniture moving disc thingers. (I'm sure that was helpful!)

Apparently our hard work paid off. I got a text today from my mother-in-law saying that she is enjoying her new desk! :)

Have you done a furniture refinish lately? Leave a link... I would love to check it out and get some inspiration for my next project!

  4. This turned out great and glossy black was a good color. It doesn't even look like the same piece of furniture.
