PINTEREST FAIL: HOLIDAY M&M BUTTONS

This was one frustrating recipe. It was supposed to be something quick and easy right after a long day of school. But no. Instead it was an hour of frustration and hard-as-a-rock chocolates.

Ok. So I followed ALL directions. I preheated my oven to 200*. I used an oven thermometer because apparently our oven needs to be recalibrated.

You are supposed to put the pretzels with the Hershey Hugs in the oven for 2-4 minutes.

And several sources said to use Hugs because they supposedly melt easier than Kisses.

Apparently my Hugs didn't get the memo to MELT.

It was a sad-sad moment when my Hugs just smashed.

I thought maybe they would need more time.

But nooooooo.

No matter how long I left them in the oven (while checking diligently every few minutes), the chocolate never softened. I think I eventually burned the Hugs because the white chocolate turned yellow.

And for your laughing pleasure, this is what they were supposed to look like...

Cooking Classy

Hope this made you all feel more adept in the kitchen! But isn't it encouraging to know that everyone makes mistakes and that not everything works out Pinterest-perfect?

Here's to hoping your holiday baking was more successful (and less frustrating!) than mine!

  1. ahahahhaa, we've all had them, I think (our Pinterest fails). :) Sorry the Hugs didn't get the memo to melt. ;) I'm here to wish you a Merry Christmas.

  2. Hi Lindsey! What a shame because they look really cute! I know that had it been a disaster in my kitchen, I would have just had to eat all of the failures....
    Cause that's what I DO!
Have a Very Merry Christmas both you and Todd, and a very Blessed New Years!

  3. I must say I would have seen your version and marveled at them, then gobbled them up before anyone got to them :P
I can only ever take pin interest with a grain of enthusiastic thought, verses it looking exactly like mine *lol*

    Happy Holidays!

  4. The Pinterest ones look like they are so much whiter. Maybe they used something else. White chocolate is so hard to melt right since it's just oil. Or maybe they have a commercial oven. So sad! :(
I hope you have a happy New Year with great successes in the kitchen for 2014!
    hugs♥,
    Caroline
